Call 2014 the year of Melissa McCarthy. In addition to being an Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated actress, McCarthy can officially add another fun role to her resume: designer!
As a plus-size woman, McCarthy has said in the past that she has a hard time being dressed for the red carpet.
"Two Oscars ago, I couldn't find anyone to do a dress for me," she told Redbook in a recent interview. "I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no."
Now, McCarthy—who studied fashion and textiles at Southern Illinois University—has paired up with friend and fellow fashionista Daniella Pearl, with whom she collaborated for her 2011 Emmys gown, to work on a plus-size line called Pearl, which McCarthy hopes will help women "feel good about themselves," and provide some much-needed options in the world of plus-size fashion.
