Sofia Vergara makes her second appearance on the cover of Shape this month, looking better than ever at 42. And she’s just getting started—the sexy, Colombian-born actress is fresh off Modern Family’s fifth Emmy win for Outstanding Comedy Series, she's dating People’s Hottest Bachelor, Joe Manganiello, and has turned over a whole new fitness leaf.
“Everyone knows that I’ve never been into working out. I was always very happy with what I have,” she says of her voluptuous curves. “Then I hit 40 and I started seeing a softness everywhere on my body.” After her “aha” moment, Vergara really started to take care of her body—building up strength with her trainer through Pilates-inspired Lagree Method workouts using a Megaformer (a machine that has a system of springs and pulleys with adjustable resistance to work your entire body) and in classes at Studio Metamorphosis.
When it comes to her diet, Vergara says her mentality has changed ever since moving to LA—she's a big fan of making Dr. Oz's vegetable juices and tries to stay away from processed foods—but she still has a serious soft spot. “I heard about someone in LA who got hypnotized so they wouldn’t eat candy. I’m seriously looking into that because I'm obsessed. When I do indulge, I exercise a bit harder the next day. My workout motto is really simple: No pain, no cake!”
