It’s hard to believe that Ivanka Trump slipped into this midriff-baring top and skinny jeans for Shape’s May cover shoot just four months after giving birth to her second child, but that’s exactly what she did!
Then again, the businesswoman, former model, and daughter of real estate mogul Donald Trump and Olympic-skier-turned-socialite Ivana Trump is no stranger to hard work. The Warton School graduate is now the executive vice president of development and acquisitions at The Trump Organization, a judge on NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice, and the founder of a successful eponymous fashion company. It’s no surprise that the driven beauty is also disciplined with diet and exercise, even with the competing demands of three jobs, two kids, and a husband.
“When I was in my 20s, I felt guilty if I didn’t exercise—now I feel guilty if I do,” she says. “Even if it's just an hour, that's time I could be spending with my family. So rather than beat myself up, I find things that I like to do with them instead.” She and husband Jared Kushner turn working out into a date by hitting the tennis court or playing 18 holes together, and she often does yoga alongside daughter Arabella, who turns 3 in July. When Ivanka does have time to herself, she goes to Spin class or works out with her trainer Rhonda Malkin, who incorporates dance, yoga, Pilates, and massage into her unique method.
Motherhood has also dramatically shifted Trump’s attitude toward food. Carb-heavy meals like pizza or pasta were staples in her diet before, (“I ate like a teenager,” she admits) she began thinking about nutrition differently during her first pregnancy. Ivanka began incorporating more lean protein, such as chicken and salmon, into her diet. “Slowly, I started to enjoy, if not crave, these healthier options. Now healthy eating is the norm for me,” she says.
Obviously, her balanced approach to diet and exercise works, as she lost 40 pounds after her pregnancy with Arabella, and 30 pounds after giving birth to her son Joseph 7 months ago.
