Before you head down for a free Slurpee get the facts and see how the new lite variety stacks up to the original. The truth may surprise you!
It’s SlurpeeFREE day meaning that today, May 23, 2012, you can go into any 7-Eleven between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and suck down a 7.11 ounce Slurpee for free! If you read our post about what's in a 7-Eleven Slurpee last year, you may never want to sip the sweet treat again. But, if you’re a die-hard fan you might want to revisit this year.
Today, 7-Eleven is introducing the Slurpee Lite, which is sugar-free, unlike Slurpees of the past. The Fanta Wild Cherry has 18 grams of sugar in 8 ounces! In addition to no sugar, Slurpee Lite has 50 percent fewer calories. Now, we’re not saying the unnaturally colored drinks are good for you but if you want to stop in for a freebie today it’s not the end of the world.
What will you be ingesting if you pick up a freebie Sugar-Free Mango Slurpee today? Water, dextrin (a type of carbohydrate), Erythritrol (a naturally-derived sugar substitute), citric acid, natural flavors, potassium, benzoate (a chemically produced sodium preservative), quillaia extract (which comes from the bark of a tree found in Peru and Chile and is used as a foaming agent in many drinks), sucralose (35mg to be exact), yucca extract, yellow 6, and yellow 5. That all adds up to about 20 calories and 6 grams of carbohydrates.
We still recommend grabbing a mango with a glass of sparkling water if you really need a fun fizzy drink. You’ll be taking in just 135 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 35 grams of carbohydates. And yes, one mango has about 31 grams of sugar but it’s natural and unrefined. Plus, mangos provide a whopping 96 percent of your daily value of vitamin C, 32 percent of vitamin A, and 3.7 grams of fiber. But if the mango won’t do it for you go ahead and grab yourself a freebie and satisfy your craving for the summer. Just don’t make it a habit!
If mango’s not your thing check out the other flavors 7-Eleven is unveiling this summer. Chose your favorite and forgo the rest for a healthy summer!
