I love labor-intensive drinks. If there is muddling, blending, or layering involved, I’m there! And what better time to enjoy a laboriously made cocktail than on Labor Day? This weekend, I’ll be whipping up a batch of Labor of Love created by Suzan Boyce, beverage director at Cotton Row, Commerce Kitchen, Pane e Vino, James Steakhouse, and Alana Shay, which opens in September. Not only does it involve muddling and mashing, the Labor Day libation is the perfect combination of summer fruits and autumnal herbs to ring in the fall season. Thanks to tons of fresh fruits like superfood blueberries and slimming stone fruits like peaches and plums, Labor of Love provides nutrients while keeping sugar and calories low. Feel free to swap in your favorite fruits for a customized recipe! I recommend using Spanish cava or Italian Prosecco. Both are delicious and more affordable than many sparkling wines. Cheers!

Labor of Love
Serves: 10-12

Ingredients:
1 sliced peach
1 sliced plum
1/2 pint blueberries
1/2 cup halved white grapes
1/2 pint raspberries or blackberries
1 sliced lime
3 sprigs of fresh thyme
1 sprig of fresh rosemary
1 sprig of fresh basil
1 bottle of Spanish or Italian sparkling wine
1 cup of white whiskey or tequila

Directions:
Combine all ingredients and mash together in a pitcher. Serve in a hurricane glass of other festive ware!
