How do you keep yourself calm and manage a day when you have a heavy load of work to do, several mandatory meetings, and available sweets?
My day yesterday was like that and it wasn’t very pleasant. I got up at 8 and started studying, by the time I had class at 2:30, I felt like I’d already done so much that I needed a nap. Unfortunately, I had a meeting following class that went until 5:30, a quick dinner and a little more time to do work, then commitments at 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 p.m. My roommate had also given me a brownie that she made that morning that looked so tempting. But, I’m proud to tell you that I passed on it, in favor of an apple and a whole lot of ice water. When I’m in a situation where I can’t avoid the stress, and just need to get though it, I try to do some deep breathing, drink tons of water, and check one thing off the list at a time—without looking ahead at the entire thing! Or a try one of these ways to de-stress. You can do them anytime, anywhere! I also repeat the mantra on a poster I have on my wall: “Keep calm and carry on.” Positive messages go a long way.
And what really helped was that at 8:00pm was my first-ever real yoga class. Coming up in my next post I’ll talk about how taking that 90 minutes out of my day was so vital.
