I need sleep!

I've been burning the candle at both ends lately, and it's time to prioritize what's really important. First things first, I am what's important. I usually fill my weekends with things to do, places to go, and people to see--living in Manhattan makes this very possible--but I seem to forget that taking care of myself should be Number One. I've got bigger responsibilities at work--like a monthly staff notes page, writing health and nutrition pieces, and pitching new ideas at weekly meetings--which means I have to be ready to go every morning. Plus, training for a triathlon requires me to keep my body and mind in shape--so my days are already packed with crossing things off my to-do list. But when weekends come I typically say 'yes' to everything except my needs, or my health. I'll skimp on sleep and even exercising in favor of doing things like going to dinner, shopping, birthday parties, and dancing with my friends.  In order for me to put myself first, that means I need to go out less and sleep in more. (I think I'll start planning early morning cardio classes with my friends that are looking to get back into shape for the summer--this'll be my reminder to saying no to parties and yes to a healthier lifestyle.) As we always say at Shape, sleep (at least 8 hours) is the key to being successful at a lot of things: having energy to work out, having the willpower to stick to your diet, and even keeping your mood on an even keel. Now I actually get it--and I'm putting that advice into practice.
