Hello sports fans! Can you believe the 2012 London Olympics begin today? I am super excited and can’t wait to see how many gold medals the USA brings home.
First, I should introduce myself: My name is Sheryl Swoopes. As a former professional basketball player and a three-time Olympic gold medalist, I am thrilled to be blogging about the Summer Olympic Games for Shape.com, where I’ll discuss all of the exciting things that are sure to happen over the next few weeks. Even though I am not physically at the games, I can assure you that the athletes are excited, nervous, anxious, proud, and just ready to start competing. It is such a long and hard journey and there’s no better feeling than putting on that jersey and representing your country.
What athlete, team or event are you looking forward to watching? I can’t pick just one because there is so much talent to be excited about. Will it be Michael Phelps, who is arguably the greatest swimmer in history and a strong favorite to win at least three golds? Or will it be Ryan Lochte who out swam Phelps at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June? Who is the better men’s basketball team? The original ’92 Dream Team or the 2012 team? Can Yohan Blake defeat Usain Bolt when it really counts? What about women’s basketball? I don’t know who you would pick, but without a doubt, I’m going with Coach Geno Auriemma and the US women’s team.
We have a lot to look forward to this year with all of the talk and controversies surrounding a lot of athletes and teams. I can’t wait!
Go USA! Bring home the gold!
Until next time,
