From nap pods to unlimited time off, there are some pretty incredible work perks out there. But now, Facebook and Apple are one-upping them all by unveiling plans to pay for female employees to freeze eggs (up to $20,000), making them the first major employers to offer this coverage for non-medical reasons.
Facebook recently began covering egg freezing (and employees have already begun taking advantage), and Apple will start in January, spokespeople for the companies told NBC News.
Whatever the exact motivations behind their decision may be, some people are arguing that having the option to explore fertility options that might otherwise be out of reach financially is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, these two tech leaders can pave the way for even more benefits that support female employees—whatever their decisions may be when it comes to motherhood.
