I admire Lance Armstrong for his physical endurance, his mindset during riding and his sheer determination. I also find him inspiring as a cancer survivor. Not only did he win his battle with cancer, like his races, but he took his brand name, status and power to start LIVESTRONG.
What a cause it is! It is one of the most popular cancer research foundations across the globe and it is not a trend - it's a lifestyle.
I actually have never been to the LIVESTRONG website until this morning, but it will be one that I will from here on out. My brother told me to check out the MyPlate feature at www.livestrong.com. And this is my new favorite fitness tool.
I've never been one to really watch my calories. I didn't want to become the person who has to count every calorie. I didn't want to be so consumed with how many calories I was burning during my workouts; I'd rather have fun with it! But a few things have made me change my mind the past few months and www.livestrong.com/myplate was the final push to make me become interested in tracking calories.
What's so great about MyPlate? There are many things:
- I don't need to do any math
- Many restaurants and food brands have partnered with MyPlate to give full nutritional information on their dishes
- It gives me a detailed summary of what I've eaten, how many calories, how much cholesterol, sugars, fat, sodium, etc is in each meal. But it also tells me those values combined.
I think the most important aspect of MyPlate is the overall concept of being in-the-know about what we put into our bodies on a daily basis. Sure, it's great to load up on fruits, but just how much sugars are in those fruits? Just a great way to stay informed while staying healthy.
I highly suggest that if you want to become a healthier, more fit person, go to www.livestrong.com/myplate.
