Okay, I was always one of those people that accepted yoga for its strength and stretching benefits, but I never really believed the peace of mind component. This may have had something to do with my trying poses to an iPod application, with headphones that kept falling out while I tried to find a place to set the iPod while standing on one leg…So yeah, suffice it to say I’m late on the bandwagon, but I humbly admit that I wish I’d been earlier.
Yesterday I went to a yoga class taught by a friend who’s a certified yogi. The lights were dim, the music was fun, I was breaking a sweat, and my body was willing to do things I’d never asked of it before. I felt poised, in my element. And what’s better; I had surprising strength as a result of all my running and other workouts. It was a huge confidence boost: I could do this. There was no reason to be intimidated anymore, and I felt so re-centered and peaceful after the session that thinking back to it really got me through the end of the week.
I’m kind of spreading the yoga love around to everyone right now (I may be last on the bandwagon but I’m most enthusiastic!) I’d love to hear what you think and if you’ve struggled with yoga like me try these 3 new approaches to challenging yoga poses. It can really help!
