Hot, hot, hot research news! If you're a fan of spicy foods that are seasoned with chili peppers, you'll get an added benefit to that hotness: help with sinus problems. A new study has found that a nasal spray containing capsicum annum, an ingredient derived from hot chili peppers, may help with certain types of sinus inflammation.

Published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthama & Immunology, researchers compared the use of capsicum annum nasal spray with placebo nasal spray in 44 people for two weeks. They found that the spray from chili peppers was a quick, safe and effective on non-allergic rhinitis, an upper-respiratory condition that is usually caused by environmental factors such as weather, household chemicals or perfumes.

While capsaicin is also the active ingredient in several topical medications used for temporary pain relief, this is the first controlled study where capsaicin was used on a continuous basis to control symptoms.

Do you like spicy foods? If you suffer from sinus issues, would you try a nasal spray made from chili peppers?
