If you’ve ever wanted to go inside a guy’s mind, now you can, thanks to a new Bravo docu-series.
Premiering Sunday, March 9 at 10 p.m. ET, Online Dating Rituals of the American Male will introduce you to two new guys each week who share their perspectives on Internet dating. [Tweet the news!]
There's smoking-hot Marcus, 37, a divorced artist and celebrity trainer who’s been on 10 online dates and is looking for a long-term relationship and kids. His profile "red flags" are photos showing lots of drinking, heavy makeup, and provocative outfits, but he's open to dating women who are only a 10-percent compatibility match. You’ll be laughing at one of his dates who pretty much says every inappropriate thought that comes to her mind and doesn’t care what poor Marcus thinks.
You’ll also meet Alex, 26, a car dealership owner and entrepreneur who’s been on more than 100 online dates, manscapes, and believes that the point of online dating is “guys looking to get laid and girls looking to get laid.” In fact, his use of the word “laid” in one episode could easily turn into drinking game. And while there are moments when you want to slap this horndog who thinks he’s God’s gift to women, he owns up to having insecurities and is up for trying different types of dates.
Unlike most reality TV, watching this show can teach you a few things to improve your online dating skills, such as:
1. Your messages and texts aren’t as private as you think. Marcus shows his friends the silly names one girl calls him via text.
2. It's best to be real. Although Alex's belief that a woman who lies a lot on her profile about what she looks like is “incredibly easy to sleep with” isn't true, both guys are understandably annoyed when a girl shows up looking differently than she did in her photos.
3. Rethink “party” pics. When Alex sees a lot of drinking photos on one girl’s profile, he quips, “This girl is obviously an alcoholic. I like that; she probably has self-esteem issues.” Marcus on the other hand isn't into those photos, so be mindful of the persona your images portray.
4. Don’t assume you’re the only girl he’s seeing. Both guys have dates with more than one woman in one night.
