Exercise seems to be a magic pill. It reduces your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and it improves your mood. Turns out, if you suffer from migraines, it can also help to prevent them.
Because working out improves blood flow and helps you relax, it makes sense that exercise would help prevent migraines. And, in fact, some doctors have been prescribing exercise as a treatment for migraines for years, although no research has ever been found that support exercise as treatment. Until now that is. A randomized controlled study published in the journal Cephalalgia, found that when migraine patients exercised for 40 minutes three times a week, that it was just as effective as traditional drug treatment (the drug topiramate) at preventing migraines.
