We’re sure you’ve heard Taylor Swift’s new single by now. “Shake It Off” isn’t just a catchy beat to dance to, though—it is a mantra that Swift wants her fans to follow.
She expressed this sentiment when she responded to a fan, Hannah, who posted about her struggles with bullies at school.
Our favorite nugget from the wonderfully encouraging Instagram comment? "This isn’t a high school thing or an age thing. It’s a people thing. A life thing. It doesn’t stop. It doesn’t end or change. People cut other people down for entertainment, amusement, out of jealousy, because of something broken inside them. Or for no reason at all."
She’s right. Bullying isn’t just a problem when we’re young. It’s everywhere. It’s every day. And the effects of bullying don’t just go away—there are long term consequences. We love Taylor for recognizing this and taking the time to reach out to her fans.
