Valentine’s Day Date Night Makeup
The reservations are made, the flowers are ordered, you’ve (hopefully) picked a hot guy to have on your arm, and now you’ve got to look fab on your Valentine’s Day date. It’s easy—just follow this step-by-step from celebrity makeup artist Carie Brescia, who has worked with Brooke Shields and Taylor Swift, and he won’t be able to take his eyes off of you.
Step 1: Eye Prep
Men may say they like a natural look, but an “I haven’t slept in three days” face is not sexy, so start by de-puffing those peepers. Brescia recommends an eye cream that has caffeine to decrease puffiness and increase circulation, which helps reduce dark circles (she likes 100 Percent Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream). Apply by dabbing with your ring finger (for less pressure) below and around your eyes.
Step 2: Lids
No need for complicated products or techniques to make eyes pop. Brescia says, keep it simple. Choose a creamy shadow base and add a powder over top for virtually waterproof staying power. She suggests a soft rose or taupe base, which works on all skintones (Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Color in Rose Gold is one of her faves). Use your ring finger to apply from the lash line up into the crease, blending out. Then apply a shimmery bronze shadow, such as L’Oreal’s HiP Studio Secrets Professional Crystal Shadow Duo in Darling, over the eye stick using a medium to large eye shadow brush. Last apply a lighter bronze shimmer on the brow bone just underneath the eyebrow to highlight.

Step 3: Lashes
For fluttery, flirty glances across the table, curl your lashes and then load up on the mascara by applying several coats, letting each one dry in between. Be sure to gently wiggle the mascara brush back and forth starting at the roots and then extending outward to prevent clumps.
Step 4: Face
You want to cover imperfections, not appear like you caked on makeup. For a dewy look, add a drop of your favorite moisturizer to a liquid foundation that matches your skin tone, then blend all over your face with your fingertips.
Step 5: Highlighter
A facial highlighter can help your face glow in all the right places. Go with a liquid product, such as Benefit’s High Beam, since it's easier to blend, Brescia says. Apply above the outer part of the eyebrow and along the upper cheekbones in a V formation, then blend outward.
Step 6: Lips
Every perfect date should end with a kiss, so be sure your pucker is low-maintenance and guy-friendly (read: no Christina Aguilera-like red lipstick). Brescia says a creamy stick in a soft rose color that stays put, such as Rimmel’s Moisture Renew Lipcolor in Summer Angel, is perfect because it mimics the natural color in your lips and keeps them soft and supple, so he’ll want to keep kissing all night.
