Take your leather pants (real or faux) from the street to work to the party circuit with these trendsetting tips
Nix your preconceived notions because leather pants are no longer just worn by rocker chicks and biker babes. Thanks to contemporary brands such as Helmut Lang, Theory, and Topshop, leather and faux leather leggings have been a hot commodity for several seasons now. But it wasn’t until recently that leather bottoms morphed into a variety of wearable cuts and a slew of different fits. Lucky for us, designers continue crafting different versions of the leather pant at varying price points. Whether they’re in the form of leggings, traditional trousers, skinny jeans, or slouchy sweatpants, I'm happy to declare that this trend is here to stay.
Fresh spins on the garment include casual daytime looks and even office wear. For a relaxed weekend vibe, pair your leather pant (preferably a legging) with street sneakers, a flannel or t-shirt, and an oversized coat. When it comes to buttoning up for the office, leather pants can be appropriate and chic if you keep everything else streamlined and minimal (think boyfriend blazer and pointed pumps) and leave your heavy embellishments at home—remember, you want to look like a boss and not the entertainment. Let the pants provide the only edge.
When it’s time step up your game for an evening out, top your pants with luxurious fabrics in the form of a silk blouse or velvet blazer, and, of course, a killer heel. You're bound to turn heads at all your holiday gatherings with this sexy mix.
Perhaps the hippest new version of leather pants is in the form of a slouchy trouser. These can be casual or office appropriate (depending on how you pair them), featuring a slight draping along the leg while still maintaining a close fit. Even when worn with a classic button-down, this style has a sophisticated edge that will give you a leg up in the conference room. While leggings and skinny pant styles are probably the easiest to pull off for most body types, pick up a pair of loose leather trousers if you err on the trendier side.
Make classic, refined, and rebellious leather pants a must-have this season and beyond. The versatility of these pants allows you to pull off many different styles with added swag. If you don’t already have a pair, put them on your holiday wish list or start shopping today—it’s Black Friday, after all!
