TGIF! This week’s fashion blog focus: Separates! I sported the outfit on the left on a Tuesday morning before my kids’ summer camp began, a.k.a. I was on full-time mommy duty. We were headed to the beach club, and I knew my two-piece shorts set would be the perfect choice. It’s easy, playful, comfortable, and right on trend.
Being too "matchy matchy” is a thing of the past. Bold, patterned separates are all the rage right now, and no one is using that label negatively anymore. This look is not for the faint of heart, so opting for a shorts version can be less overbearing than a trouser suit or pencil skirt.
You can balance out the bare midriff of a crop top with a conservative neckline or an A-line hem. Not all matching separates need to flaunt a midriff, either. If you’re just not into bearing your tummy, pair a patterned blazer with matching Bermuda shorts for a transitional outfit perfect for end of summer and early fall. You’ll show less skin—and slim your stomach—by wearing a simple, solid-color tee or blouse underneath (neutral tones always work).
And don't forget the best part of buying separates: You can wear them separately. So pick a print that you really love and that you wouldn't mind wearing on its own to allow for versatility. Check out some of my favorite Instagram looks below to find your outfit inspiration!
