Yesterday I introduced the 5 Day Fast Forward from my new book Cinch! Conquer Cravings, Drop Pounds and Lose Inches, which can help you lose up to 8 pounds in 5 Days. In yesterday’s post I explained that a strict “cleanse” isn’t right for everyone, but if you’re in the ‘need quick results to stay motivated camp’ here’s how this solid food detox works:
It includes four simple meals a day, made from just five foods: spinach, almonds, raspberries, organic eggs, and organic yogurt, or vegan-friendly alternatives (as well as natural seasonings to spruce things up and rev up your metabolism – more about those next week). I selected these 5 foods because:
- Each is filling on its own, but can be combined to create deliciously satisfying simple meals.
- They all contain natural detoxifying and health-protecting nutrients.
- Each has been scientifically shown to specifically support weight loss, which I cite in the book.
- I wanted to make this detox extremely simple – easy to shop for, easy to understand, easy to do.
- The group provides a combination of lean protein, carbohydrates and good-for-you fat, so you won’t deprive your body during this speedy slim down.
Over a 5 day period you’ll eat the exact same four meals a day (the recipes are in the book):
Meal 1 is a scramble
Meal 2 is a parfait
Meal 3 is a smoothie
Meal 4 is a salad
You can eat one of each of the meals per day, in any order you like, as long as you enjoy the first within one hour of waking up and the others are spaced evenly, no sooner than three and no more than five hours apart. The book includes a grocery list that specifies all the ingredients you’ll need to get through the 5 days.
The 5 Day Fast Forward is both a physical and emotional reboot, and that’s how it can change your life. When I meet many of my clients they’ve been sinking into a downward spiral. Many are at their heaviest weight, tired all the time, not sleeping well, and caught up in an erratic eating pattern. Some days they may barely eat, then gorge at night and go to bed feeling stuffed and ashamed. Other days may feel like a constant nibble fest. When you lack a stable eating pattern, the side effects aren’t pleasant. Energy slumps, irritability, bloating and water retention aren’t uncommon. And when your pattern is that you have no pattern, it’s impossible to know when you are hungry or full, which can lead to a see-saw of undereating (which triggers a metabolism slow-down to conserve energy) and overeating (which causes excess food to get socked away in your fat cells).
The 5 Day Fast Forward ends the chaos by introducing order and simplicity. You’ll eat the exact same meals at the same times every day to give your body, mind, and taste buds a fresh start and achieve real results.
By Day 5, many people notice that their cravings for salty, fatty, or sweet foods disappear, and they often begin to grown an appreciation for the natural flavors of whole foods. Several of the women who tested the plan told me that by the end of Day 5, the thought of eating something fried or processed had simply lost its appeal, and they couldn’t imagine going back to some of their previous habits.
And when all of the decisions about exactly what to eat, how much, and when have been made for you, you can’t act on emotional, social, environmental and habitual eating triggers. That’s incredibly powerful and the reason why I included a built-in food diary in the Fast Forward chapter, along with ‘Insighter’ questions to help you examine your relationship with food so you can begin to transform it - forever.
So, that’s the “detox” in a nutshell. If you decide to give it a try I can’t wait to hear about your results.
