Not long ago I wrote a blog about a 74 year old woman who I call my hero. She is from Sweden and is the epitome of what I aspire to be at her age and beyond. Her name is Wanja Sjodin. She started weight training when she was almost 50 years old. I am still amazed at what she has achieved! For it is beyond comprehension for people more than half her age: 20 and 30 year olds athletes to achieve.
I become so impressed and inspired when I found her pictures and YouTube videos that I sought to read as much as I could about her. I even went as far as to put a picture of her in our gym to get me through another workout when I felt I could not make it to the end. Finally, I came across a Swedish website and through my translator aps I was able to get an email address. I did not even hesitate to send her an email with “HELLO FROM AMERICA” in the subject line. I remember as I hit the send icon thinking, “she is going to write me back……” and today, guess what? I got my email from her!
All I can say is I was as excited as a child would be getting a letter Santa Claus! WOW! I still am so happy I had to share my story. And the whole time I was reading what she wrote to me and seeing the picture she sent to me with my name on it, I kept thinking…you know, if one person can touch the lives of so many from a totally different area in the world, speaking a different language, what can we do in the realm of our own backyards and around us to help others achieve success? Amazingly, people forget that sometimes all it takes is ONE PERSON shining a light for another person to keep the light shining brighter!
Go out and find a hero! Be your own hero to someone today! And when you do, know that YOU could be the difference between a “GO” day or a “NO” day in someone’s life.
I am so blessed to have been blessed by my hero, Wanja Sjodin.
