Most people who try to lose weight end up focusing on one thing: the pesky number on the scale! It’s easy to obsess over those digits since they can influence your feelings of self-worth and confidence.
After becoming frustrated with hitting a plateau at 147 pounds, I immediately went into panic mode and obsessed over those three little digits: 1-4-7. AHHH! Will the scale ever go down?
My life coach, Alison Miller, asked me how I was feeling physically. I told her I felt great—toned, strong, and healthy. Plus, I have dropped a few dress sizes, which is a major confidence booster.
So what exactly am I worried about? After some probing from Alison, I realized what I was afraid of: failing at this SHAPE weight loss journey and not being accepted by society at my current weight.
Alison helped me realize that I should stop obsessing over the number on the scale, and instead, focus on how I feel. As long as I am consistent with healthy eating and exercise, the extra weight will come off in time. And when my body does settle into a comfortable weight, it’s OK for me to accept myself as I am, curves and all. I’ve never strived to be a size 0 and I’m not going to start now!
