When I’m in a pinch and there’s no time to cook after work, I rely on healthy neighborhood restaurants. One of my go-to takeout places is called Chicken Run. It’s a Mexican-owned and operated restaurant that specializes in chicken. Sure, they have your standard tacos and burritos on the menu, but they also have grilled chicken.
Pre-weight-loss journey, I use to order the grilled chicken and get unhealthy sides as an accompaniment, like fried plantains and breaded mushrooms. Now I leave the sides off my order and opt instead for a whole grilled chicken (cut into pieces) with pita bread on the side. And thanks to a variety of sauces, I never get bored. My favorites are barbecue and green salsa.
The entire meal costs $12 and serves as four meals for me or two if I’m sharing with my boyfriend. I always eat two pieces of chicken and half a pita dipped in whichever sauce I get that day. I also throw together my own salad or veggies (or both) at home to accompany the meal.
