I've hit an exciting milestone in my weight-loss journey: People are starting to notice. Yesterday I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in a while and she said, "Wow, you look amazing!" She obviously meant it as a compliment, but I wound up feeling slightly embarrassed. My weight has always been a source of angst for me—making me feel self-conscious. I know I've slimmed down—the scale and my too-loose clothes are proof of that—but hearing people comment on my size reminds me of how bad I looked before. And while I do love the fact that my body is shrinking enough for others to remark on it, I still don't have the self-esteem to handle the attention. I'm learning that my outer transformation is only part of this experience—the changes I make inside are just as important.
