I just got back from Los Angeles, where I had the opportunity to meet with about 50 SHAPE readers for lunch and dinner—and it got me so inspired. These women, just like you and me, are full of amazing ideas about how to stay confident and inspired. Some of these women have been reading the magazine for 21 years, some just 1 or 2, but they all have one thing in common: a passion for living their best, healthiest, and most fulfilled lives. We talked about food and mood (emotional eating is a big concern), depression, how life changes get in the way of healthy living, how hard it is to find a workout that makes you happy, the best ways to juggle family, career, and health…and so much more! So many great ideas were brought up that I can't wait to implement them in the magazine and on shape.com.
On a personal note, what was also great: I stayed in a hotel with a saline pool (amazing!) right next to an outdoor fitness center. Every morning I woke up at 5:15 to first Skype my family back in New York, check work e-mails, and then exercise (my tri is only 2 weeks away!). I ran 3.2 miles on the treadmill and swam 50 laps each day…then of course, sat in the hot tub outside (LA mornings are chilly so this was the perfect muscle relaxer) while drinking my Earl Grey tea. It was an invigorating start to what were very busy, but inspiring, days.
Since I didn't get to meet with all our SHAPE readers, tell me what your biggest block to living a healthy lifestyle is—and we can try to address it in an upcoming issue of SHAPE (or on shape.com). And if you have something you want to see more of (or less of) in SHAPE, e-mail me too at Valerie@Shape.com!
