I moved to a new neighborhood in San Diego a few months ago and while I’ve found a decent gym and tracked down some good walking, running, and biking routes, I still feel bored with my routine. A girl cannot live by group cycling and running alone! So I dragged myself out of bed early one recent Saturday morning for Todd Durkin’s 90-minute Boot Camp Challenge. Todd is one of the best trainer’s in the country and his gym, Fitness Quest 10, is full of the latest and coolest equipment. At first I was a little worried about what the class would involve (I didn’t want some drill sergeant-type trainer yelling at me to do 10 more push-ups), but the other “campers” were so fun and encouraging, I soon relaxed into it. We jogged, did calisthenics, ran intervals, cranked out strength moves, and finished with a flag football-style game that made you forget that you were running all over the place. It was the toughest workout I’ve done in a long time, but I felt challenged, not beaten up. Todd changes the route and exercises every time so people don’t get bored, so I’ll definitely be back.
