From November 27 to 29, Gold’s Gym clubs nationwide are opening their doors to the public for free. It’s a fun offer, but the email I received about it was filled with all the statistics you hear this time of year: like “it takes a half-hour on the treadmill to burn off 1 cup of stuffing” and “pumpkin pie requires 25 minutes of vigorous exercise.” I don’t know about you, but I never watch what I eat on Thanksgiving. I don’t care how many hours on the elliptical it will take to burn the calories in my holiday meal, I enjoy every last morsel of it guilt-free.
Tomorrow I’m going to eat far too many of my mother-in-law’s delicious spiced nuts (hey, she only makes them once a year). I’m going back for seconds of the stuffing. And I can almost taste the chocolate cake—and smell the Pinot Noir —I’ll be savoring at dessert. If you eat healthfully most of the year, a day of indulging isn’t going to make you go up a dress size.
That being said, you should hit your local Gold’s Gym this weekend! Get in some cardio, crank out a strength workout, or try a group-fitness class—but please do it for the fun of working out, not because you need to “work off” your dinner.
