On November 6, my boyfriend is tackling the ING New York City Marathon, and I couldn’t be more excited for him. But—having run it myself last year—I know how challenging it can be, no matter how well prepared you are. That’s why I’ll be using Asics’ Support Your Marathoner program to send him personal messages via JumboTrons along the course.
Here's how it works: Go to supportyourmarathoner.com by November 5, and upload a motivational picture, video, or text message for a racer, including his or her name and home state or bib number. The system uses that info to synch with the runner's timing chip; when he or she passes the sensor mats located 100 yards ahead of the 9- , 13- , and 22-mile markers, your well-wishes will pop up on a 40-foot video screen adjacent to the route. How cool is that?
I’ll be cheering my boyfriend on in person, too, but for out-of-towners who can’t make it to the city, this is the perfect way to provide the encouragement your favorite runner needs to keep chugging along—all the way to mile 26.2.
