Anybody who's met me before knows I love Zumba Fitness classes. Like, I love them. Taking a Zumba class is one of my favorite ways to work out because I love to dance and I hate to feel like I'm working out.
So when I had the opportunity to take a class with world-renowned Zumba Fitness instructor Kass Martin at Sweat AC, a new three-day health and fitness expo that took place in Atlantic City this September, I jumped at the chance.
What immediately stood out to me was Martin's enthusiasm and love for Zumba. As she stood up on stage beaming at us while she went through her introduction, you couldn't help but grin along with her. Her excitement was contagious.
She's also an ah-mazing dancer! That said, I wish her class could have moved a bit more slowly. I consider myself a pretty seasoned Zumba dancer, but I found myself very confused multiple times—and judging from the stop-and-go movement of my classmates, I don't think I was alone in that. While it was truly enjoyable to watch her dance up on the stage, I think the class could have benefited from more instruction.
Zumba Fitness encourages you to embrace your inner party animal. Classes also vary from instructor to instructor, as each one adds their own personality and identity to it, and that's part of what I love about it, but if you're struggling to master a basic step and are worried about keeping up with everyone, it can be hard to fully relax and enjoy your workout.
Ultimately, I had a lot of fun, though I think Martin could have tailored her class more to the fitness expo, which included people of all ages and fitness levels.
