It wasn't until the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards that the world discovered just how close Claire Danes and Lena Dunham really are. During an interview between Ryan Seacrest and the Girls star, Danes suddenly popped up to the platform to give Dunham a big hug.

"I'm really excited because you're my really good friend and I never get to see you except for the E! red carpet!" Dunham exclaimed. Danes followed up with, "I love this lady very much."

They went on to gush for several minutes about their mutual admiration, with Danes admitting she's in constant awe at what Dunham does. Turns out both actresses grew up in the same New York City neighborhood and met through a mutual friend.

Blake Lively may be a Hollywood "It" girl heating up the small screen on mega-hit shows like Gossip Girl, but when it comes to her friends, she likes to keep it less mainstream. Case in point? Her bestie relationship with Florence Welch of the indie rock band Florence + the Machine! Apparently the two struck up a friendship a few years ago after bonding over pizza backstage.

"She came to my very first show in New York. She was so sweet, and we've been friends ever since,"Welch has said. "We both love music, and she's a good influence. She's very savvy, and a good American girl—she helps me with my more cynical British side." Sounds like a little bit of "Cosmic Love" to us!

Talk about a surprising friendship! The former Disney princess was seen partying up a storm with the "Hard Core" rapper in Miami earlier this year and even made a cameo in her "Twisted" music video. The dynamic duo haven't exactly been afraid to show each other admiration on social media either; Cyrus says she loves that Lil' Kim makes her smile, and Kim has officially selected Cyrus as part of her infamous "Twerk Team."

"She's just so different from what people would think. She's so real. I love the realness," the hip-hop guru has said.

The feeling is mutual, as evidenced by Cyrus saying, "Lil' Kim is who I am on the inside, and she just makes me happy listening to her music."

Taking her adoration one step further, Lil' Kim is also who Cyrus was on the outisde this Halloween (Check out a side-by-side comparison here!).

While these two may not exactly be besties, we were still pretty surprised to see the Vogue legend and controversial rapper happily sitting next to each other—in the front row, of course—at numerous shows during 2011 New York Fashion Week. And reportedly their team-up was no accident! Wintour herself personally invited the pop diva and even sent her an inscribed photo afterwards of the two posing together with the caption "We match!" (Referring to the fact they'd both worn patterned attire).

Minaj echoed the special sentiments by calling Wintour "sweet" in Paper Magazine and also rapped about how incredible it was getting to know her in the song "Come on a Cone."

This seemingly odd duo reportedly developed a friendship after Lindsay Lohan invited the pop superstar to a slumber party at the famed Chateau Marmont Hotel in West Hollywood, Calif., where they "watched old movies and played board games"(although we're sure there might have been some drinking involved).

Their bestie-ness runs so deep, Mother Monster even defended LiLo on Twitter after she faced harsh criticism last year for her role as Elizabeth Taylor in Liz & Dick, writing"@lindsaylohan you did a beautiful job on Liz & Dick, Let no one bring u down, Liz didn't, they always try to knock the greats down a few pegs," to which Lohan responded, "@ladygaga thank you so much! You are such an incredible force and that means the world to me :) love & hugs xo hope to see you soon bella."

"We decided that I'm going to borrow her butt for a day—and she's going to borrow my breasts" Decker dished to Us Weekly.

The two have been snapped hanging out all over the world together and Brooklyn even came to visit RiRi on her 777 Tour in Toronto.

But the uber-famous actress has managed to stay close to one gal pal over the years: rocker Gwen Stefani! So how exactly do the very different twosome know each other? According to Us Weekly, Brad Pitt is a friend of Gwen and her hubby, Gavin Rossdale, and since they kept getting pregnant at the same time, their kids have grown up as playmates.

Both happen to be daughters of famous fathers (producer/director Bruce Paltrow and Dick Rudolph), but we were surprised to hear the leading ladies actually attended grade school together! They first met at St. Augustine by the Sea in Santa Monica, Calif. and have remained friends ever since.

When Paltrow hosted SNL in 2001, she included her love for Rudolph in her opening monologue, saying, "this week has been really extra-special to me because one of my best friends is on the show now, and I'm so proud of her. We've known each other since we were seven years old, and she's super-funny and talented, and I'm so glad she's in the cast. Her name is Maya Rudolph!"

It seems like Courteney Cox's friendship with Jennifer Aniston has cooled a little since Jen fell head over heels with Justin Theroux, so good thing Wedding Crashers cutie Isla Fisher is there to fill-in!

"I first met Isla at David Spade's birthday party along with Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock. Sadly, Kid and Pam never called me back, but Isla did, and we immediately became fast friends," Cox has joked. The actresses regularly meet up for girlie lunches and shopping sprees.

Leah Remini is certainly going through a tough time in her personal life with all the nasty headlines about her leaving (and slamming) Scientology, but there's one friend sticking by her every step of the way: superstar Jennifer Lopez. The unlikely duo met years ago when J. Lo was married to Marc Anthony (Remini's husband is Anthony's best friend), and their bond has been oh-so-strong ever since. They lovingly refer to each other as "besties" on Twitter, and are said to have formed a friendship over their deep love of fashion.

The Idol judge was recently spotted attending the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars to support her King of Queens gal pal, even wiping a tear after Remini' dance was over.

"Great seeing you and the fam! See you soon Xoxo" the country star once tweeted to the reality star, who echoed her enthusiasm by writing, "You too babe! See you soon! Xoxo."

Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet

All photos

They're both Academy Award-winning actresses so it's not that crazy the two would become friends eventually, but the way they met is a little more surprising. Witherspoon recounted to InStyle magazine, "Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my door bell and said, 'Dahling, Sam [Mendes] is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date? And oh, by the way, it's almost nine and I've had nothing to drink. Do you have any wine?'" The blonde beauties have been firm friends—and happy hour buddies—ever since!
