Celebrity Chefs Share Their Fitness Tips

Take a hectic, packed schedule and add in a job where cooking, tasting, talking about, writing about, and thinking about food is an all-day, every day occurrence, and you’ve got a situation where a regular exercise routine is a must. That's why top culinary stars make sure to carve out time for regular exercise, despite their busy lives. But how do they like to sweat? Below, how your favorite celebrity chefs love to stay in shape.

1. Say "om" every day. Ellie Krieger, nutritionist, chef, and host of Healthy Appetite swears by a wide range of exercises, but always makes sure to make time for vinyasa yoga each week. “It is so much more than exercise for me,” she says. “It literally resets my equilibrium mentally and physically, not to mention helps my flexibility, balance and strength.” 

2. Dance it off. At this year’s Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival, Alex Guarnaschelli, Chopped judge, iron chef, and cookbook author, told us that she takes dance classes to stay fit. She’ll take whatever type of class she can find. “I’m not picky,” she says. The fun factor draws her in, despite her self-proclaimed lack of coordination. “I don’t seem to improve…and yet, I keep going.” She also likes to ride her bike outside.

3. Switch things up. Last year, Giada De Laurentiis told us that she’s also a fan of yoga—sometimes getting up before 5 a.m. to squeeze in a session. She also told the blog Carrots ‘N Cake that in addition to yoga, she stays active outdoors, by hiking, biking, walking, and paddle surfing.
