"I grew up doing ballet, so now I take a lot of dance classes. I like Physique 57, Burn 60, and SoulCycle or Flywheel because I get positive energy from the people around me. You just can’t be the slacker," Rossum says. "I don’t like a one-on-one trainer—it's too much pressure. And I hate pushups. I hate them with a passion."

She Has No Shame About Being New

The Shameless star isn’t shy to admit if she needs help when sampling a new class. "I raise my hand like an idiot whenever the instructor asks if anyone is new to the class," she says. "I'm, like, 'Yep, I'm the loser who hasn’t been here before.' At least I’m not going to screw myself up by doing it wrong!"

She Cuts Herself Some Slack

Rossum may have a flawless figure, but the brunette beauty still indulges in dessert. "I’ve always been gluten-free, so that helps me to not snack on things that, in theory, put on weight. Not to say that I don’t eat crème brulee on the weekend—I do!" she says. "I think if you deprive yourself of anything for too long, your body will crave it and be really miserable."

She's Confident About Her Body

When it comes to her weight, the charismatic cutie doesn't let a few extra pounds faze her. "I'm fit because I make it a priority and it's part of my job. I also try to stay confident, so five pounds up or down doesn't affect my brain," Rossum says. "I'm not going to wake up like Gisele tomorrow. That's just not going to happen. She's a genetic freak—and stunning. I’m a human being."

She Lifts Weights to Drop Weight

When the actress want to drop weight quickly, she cuts back on the cardio and does a lot of strength training instead. "It's counterintuitive because many people think, 'I should stay on the treadmill for five hours,'" she says. "My go-to moves are walking lunges, leg raises, and my favorite—four sets of 15 ballet plies holding eight-pound weights. I also cut out all fruit and eat a lot of protein and vegetables."

She's All About Moderation

Rossum loves carbs. "I can't do Atkins. Being gluten-free is big enough already. I do brown rice, I do quinoa, I do potatoes—I love mashed potatoes," she says. "I just need some kind of carbs in my diet, otherwise I feel hungry."

She Tries to Give Her Full Attention

"I'm not as much of a multitasker as my character Fiona, though I do like to catch up on my TiVo while I'm cooking dinner," she says. "I try to focus on one thing at a time and give it my full focus, but I have been known to check my email on the treadmill.”

She Knows How to Relax

With such a hectic schedule, Rossum loves to pamper herself to ease stress. "A hot bubble bath is the ultimate relaxant for me. It quiets my mind after a crazy, busy day. I use some scented bubble bath and turn on some jazz music and soak until I prune," she says.

She's a Napper

Rossum sure does make being so gorgeous look easy, but every girl needs her beauty sleep. "I like to sleep eight and a half hours a night when I’m not shooting. On weekends, I can easily sleep 10 hours," she says. "When I'm shooting Shameless, I can get as little as six hours, as we shoot long hours and then I wake up early to study scenes. I usually nap during lunch break on set."

She Makes Her Own Meals

"I love to cook," she says. "I make soups over the weekend so I have them all through the week. My favorite to make is dairy-free carrot ginger."
