It’s hard to believe it was more than 28 years ago that model Christie Brinkley appeared on the cover of SHAPE. With her eternally bright smile, age-defying blonde locks, and still-fit physique, the 58-year-old doesn’t look a day over fabulous. Fresh off her run on Broadway playing Roxie Hart in Chicago, Christie reveals how she stays on her toes when it comes to maintaining her super-toned dancer’s body.

“Some days I don’t have time for a full workout, but I do have to dry my hair, right? So rather than just stand there blow-drying, I do several kinds of leg squats at the same time. I believe in multitasking.”

“When I heard I got the part in Chicago, I went out and bought a bunch of Danskin pieces to work out in. I wanted to look and feel like a pro when I’m doing my routines.”

“I’ve gotten into the habit of cranking out a set of push-ups before each show to get my blood pumping and find my focus. I worked my way up from eight to 30. That was a real accomplishment.”

“SHAPE has always been inspirational to me. Sometimes after flipping through a fashion magazine, you can feel deflated—like you’ll never measure up. But SHAPE offers real goals for real people. I still love reading it.”

“I have an organic garden and love being able to say, ‘I’m going to see what I can pick to throw in my salad.’ This year I have a bumper crop of red, yellow, and green peppers. I slice them, drizzle on a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and broil them. Delicious!”
