Shape: Why is getting a jump on your "bikini body" in April important?
Karena and Katrina (K+K): New habits take time, and getting started in April is the best time to start changing not only that mindset, but your body and metabolism. If you start now, you'll be one step ahead and ready to rock that cute suit on the beach. (Scope out The Best Celebrity Bikini Bodies of 2015 for inspiration to start your fitness routine.)

Shape: OK, but still—summer feels sooo far away! Do you guys have a trick for staying motivated and not skipping a workout?
K+K: Summer is just a hop, skip and season away! Before you know it, summer will be here, and you'll want to be ready, not get ready, so you can enjoy all the things that summer brings you: girl time, road trips, beach days, and, of course, those cute bikinis.

Shape: What helps get you both through tough workouts?
K+K: Our favorite thing to ask ourselves in any situation is "Why are you here?" This helps you to be present in that moment. It's the only way to succeed! You woke up early this morning, put your sneakers on, and hit the pavement... when you slow down, ask yourself, "Why are you here?" Did you wake up early to walk the neighborhood? No, you're here to kick some serious booty! What about the gym? As you arrive, ask yourself, "Did I come here to look at my phone and Instagrams for an hour?" No! You came here to work on your life and your goals. Be present and do what you set out to do!

Shape: Morning workouts are a big part of your fitness plans—why do you think a.m. exercise so important?
K+K: We truly believe that working out in the morning is the best way to start your day! It wakes your mind and body up and gets your metabolism revving first thing and before all the distractions of the day set in. We like to set our alarm just before the rest of the house wakes and before the emails and calls start pouring in. Chances are, if you start your morning with a great sweat, you will make healthy decisions the rest of the day.

Should You Have a Workout Buddy?

All photos

Shape: You girls are BFFs. Why do you recommend working out with a friend?
K+K: We 100 percent believe in having a workout buddy to keep each other accountable, making workout dates fun and to enjoy succeeding together. It's so much more fun to do squats together because then you can tell each other how sore you feel. It's even more fun to be on the beach with that person and they say, "Wow, those squats paid off! Your booty is looking awesome"...because only they know how hard you worked. (We agree! Here's Why Having a Fitness Buddy Is the Best Thing Ever.)

Shape: Aside from having a buddy to keep you accountable, what else is key to setting yourself up for success?
K+K: Preparing your meals ahead of time really helps you stay on track with how you're fueling your body. We like to prepare our meals for the week on Sundays. You can plan out your healthy meals for the week for your family and also pack your lunches and snacks in Tupperware. Planning your workouts ahead will also help you stick to your fitness goals. We like to write our weekly workouts in our Tone It Up journal. And we make it easy for you by posting a weekly workout schedule every Sunday.
