The Kentucky Derby is an event known for its class, excitement, and fashionable hats and dresses. And with the big derby event just days away, we wanted to profile a few celebs who love to ride horses. Horse riding is a sport that builds strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. And believe me, if you've never rode a horse before, you'll definitely wake up sore in some muscles you didn't know existed the day after a ride!

4 Celebs That Ride Horses for Fitness and Fun

1. Richard Gere. Gere doesn't just like to ride, he's passionate about horses. In fact, Gere is active in the Chief Joseph Foundation, which focuses on the Nez Perce cultural preservation, emphasizing kids and Appaloosas horse programs.

2. Maria Shriver. Shriver grew up riding horses as a kid and says that they're a big part of her life. In fact, she and her husband Arnold Schwarzenegger own horses and love them like family.

3. Christie Brinkley. Brinkley doesn't just like to ride horses, she's a pro at it! In fact, she's a champion cutting horse rider (cutting horses are those that are used to herd cattle). She started the sport in the 90s, but because the sport is dangerous, has taken to more gentle horse riding since having kids.

4. Hilary Duff. You probably know her best for her singing and acting, but Duff knows a thing or two about horses, too. After all, she grew up on a ranch outside of Austin, Texas, and has done work with the Return to Freedom American Wild Horse Sanctuary, including spearheading the Sponsor-a-Horse national classroom program that helps raise funds for taking care of the more than two hundred wild horses currently at the Sanctuary.

We hope these celebrities will turn out for the Kentucky Derby race on Saturday!
