This New Fitness App Turns Any Bike Workout Into a Boutique Cycling Class

If you're the type of spin-lover that always gets booked out of your fave cycling class, has a schedule that's not always conducive to group workout times, or simply hates paying for pricey boutique studios, you're in luck: you can now get the experience of a spin class, no studio required. Just download CycleCast, a new fitness app available in the Apple Store, lets you stream audio cycling workouts any time, whether you have your own bike or just grab an empty one at your gym.

The concept is similar to Peloton, a cycling studio that launched in 2012 offering live and on-demand classes (as long as you have a Peloton spin bike, which will set you back $1,995). Instead of shelling out serious cash, though, you simply download CycleCast's free fitness app on your iPhone, sign up for a monthly plan ($9.99) or yearly plan ($89.99), and choose the type of workout you want. Pick from 20-, 45- and 60-minute routines created by certified spin instructors from around the country, including Kevin Mondrick of BFX Studio, Jess Walsh of New York Sports Club/Crank and Isabel Schaefer, Spinning Master Instructor. Then, hit play!

New classes, each with their own playlist, are added every week, so you'll never end up with the same workout twice—just like any boutique class. Instructors coach you based on your rate of perceived exertion (RPE), meaning it doesn't matter what type of bike you're on, because you won't be asked to hit a certain number on the computer or up the resistance on the flywheel a certain amount. The app also integrates with Apple Health and MyFitnessPal, so you can easily sync and track your workouts. (Just starting out?
