The speed demon
NOELLE PIKUS-PACE, 27, SKELETON RACER
For months before the 2006 Olympics, Noelle was hit by a runaway bobsled during practice; her leg was shattered and she had a titanium rod implanted from ankle to knee. "I wouldn't allow myself to obsess over the physical pain or the heartbreak of missing the games; I wanted to focus on what I could, do-get ready to come back in 2010."
HOW SHE STAYS MOTIVATED "I think of my 2-year-old daughter, Lacee. I have to do my best to justify the important moments I'm missing with her."
HER BEST TRAINING TIP "Give yourself a post-workout reward. I keep a chocolate bar in my sled to munch on after a good race."
THE EVENT SHE'S GOTTA SEE "The aerial jumps-they're incredible!"
