Pulling together a workout playlist from the year 2000 made one thing incredibly clear: There used to be a lot more rock music on the radio. Half of the songs voted into this week's list are from the likes of Blink-182, Bon Jovi, and The Dandy Warhols. In contrast, rock music represents about 10 percent of what's on the radio today. (As this is being written, there are only three rock bands with songs in the Top 40: Paramore, Imagine Dragons, and AWOLNATION.)
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Music is cyclical, and rock will eventually return to the charts. But if you can't wait, check out the playlist below where guitar tracks rage alongside club classics from DMX, Nelly, and Madonna.
The Hives - Hate to Say I Told You So - 135 BPM
Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone - 136 BPM
The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like You - 132 BPM
DMX - Party Up (Up in Here) - 103 BPM
Blink-182 - All the Small Things - 145 BPM
Nelly - Country Grammar - 82 BPM
Bon Jovi - It's My Life - 121 BPM
*NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye - 87 BPM
Papa Roach - Last Resort - 91 BPM
Madonna - Music - 120 BPM
