Walking Music: Your Perfect Playlist

This workout playlist shows how you can use the fundamentals of DJing to improve and expand upon your current training-session soundtrack.

When a DJ mixes two songs together in a club, he or she needs to match their beats per minute (BPMs). Before long, one thing becomes clear to every novice DJ: Nearly every dance song and remix was recorded at 128 BPM.

Given this precedent, it's now essential for pop acts to record their songs at this speed. After all, if an aspiring diva wants her song played in the club, it has to blend well with other tracks.

What does this mean for working out?  It means there's a huge (and growing) quantity of songs out there, each with the same tempo. And the exercise to which 128 BPM corresponds--for most people--is walking. You can maintain a brisk pace simply by strolling to the beat.
