Over the past few years, we've seen our fair share of unconventional fitness and well-being trends. First, there was goat yoga (who can forget that?), then beer yoga, napping rooms, and well now, napping exercise classes. A gym in the U.K. is now offering a class for people to take naps.
Yes, you read right. And no, we're not talking about that 10-minute Savasana at the end of a yoga class. (It just never seems long enough, right?)
The class begins and ends with some tension-relieving stretches with a 45-minute nap in between. That means uninterrupted zzz's in the perfect temperature for getting the most out of your relaxing nap. On top of that, the gym will be offering each person a bed, a blankie, and an eye mask. Talk about real pampering.
According to the gym, the class is designed to help boost moms' and dads' mental and physical well-being, and "reinvigorate the mind, the body, and even burn the odd calorie."
While it may seem ridiculous to some people, studies have shown that taking a mini snooze may have benefits for your mental health. Research from Pennsylvania's Allegheny College showed that a group of people who took naps for 45 minutes were able to handle stress better than those who didn't.
A trial run for the classes will be taking place in one location in the U.K. If the class seems successful, David Lloyd Clubs will be adding it to other locations across the country. Not in the U.K.? Guess you're going to need to nap the old fashioned way—in your bed.
