It's Easier Than Ever to Exercise at the Airport

When you dedicate a day to traveling, it used to be a guarantee that you wouldn't be logging a workout unless you were sprinting between terminals or waking up at the crack of dawn to sweat before you hit the airport. But then San Francisco opened a yoga room. Seattle-Tacoma added a meditation room. Phoenix dedicated a two-mile walking path. So you had options. But there still wasn't a place for you to lunge it out without looking like a weirdo, swing a kettlebell without alerting airport security, or run intervals without a suitcase in your hand.

As of January 25, though, anyone flying through Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI) can do all that and more thanks to the opening of Roam Fitness. The company is set to host a 1,200-foot gym between BWI's concourses D and E that will house cardio machines, free weights, jump ropes, TRX systems, yoga mats, and kettlebells. It'll be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the year (holidays included), and there will be TV monitors that provide updated information regarding your flight—so you can finally make good use of that annoying layover or frustrating flight delay. There's also no need to worry about being late—or worse, smelly—for your flight. Once you purchase a $40 day-pass (or opt for a $175 monthly membership for those who travel on the reg), you can reserve a shower so you're guaranteed to get to your gate on time.

You won't have to sacrifice precious carry-on space for your workout gear either: The company loans out Lululemon gear (shorts and T-shirts for men; sports bras, tanks, T-shirts, shorts, and cropped pants for women) and Brooks running shoes (the Adrenaline GTS 17s). If you prefer to bring your own stuff, employees will vacuum-seal your dirty laundry before you walk out. (But you should definitely make sure you have this one thing in your carry-on.)

Roam Fitness says BWI is only the beginning, so don't sweat it if Baltimore isn't on your travel list all that often. A company spokesperson says another east coast gym is confirmed for 2017, and there are potential contracts with Charlotte, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh in play. Eventually, the Oregon-based startup hopes to have a gym available 365 days a year in all major cities.

And this whole staying fit while flying trend is worth buying into.
