4 Fat-Burning Tabata Moves Carrie Underwood Swears By

CALIA

You may recognize Erin Oprea as the trainer responsible for helping Carrie Underwood sculpt this body. Oprea has been the singer's trainer since 2007, and Underwood swears her Tabata method is what helped her get her body back-post baby. (The two also made headlines recently when they stood up to workout shamers after Oprea was ridiculed on Facebook for working out during her son's soccer game.)

Now, the celebrity trainer and former U.S. Marine is sharing her wisdom with her new book, The 4x4 Diet—based on four clean eating habits and a mix of four-minute workouts designed to reduce bloating and belly fat, increase muscle definition, and break sugar and salt addictions in just four weeks. Oprea shared with us one of her advanced Tabata workouts. It's a four-minute circuit that's broken into eight rounds of intense exercise for 20 seconds, followed by 10 seconds of rest, and it'll test your strength, balance, and endurance. Let's get to it!

Round 1: 180-Degree Jump Squats

180-Degree Jump Squat

Perform a jumping squat, rotating entire body 180 degrees while in the air. Keep rotating in the same direction so you jump left, then right.

Round 2: Sumo Squat Jumps with Air Tap

Sumo Squat Jumps

Lower into a sumo squat, then jump up and quickly tap feet together in the air. Land in a sumo squat.

Round 3: Downhill Ski Hops

Downhill Ski Hops

Stand with feet close together, and squat as if you were on skis. Jump side to side, keeping feet close together.

Round 4: Jumping Lunge

Start in a right lunge position, with legs at 90-degree angles and left knee hovering just above the floor. Drive through right heel and jump up, switching foot placement in the air. Land softly and repeat.

Repeat rounds 1–4.
