Your evening wine does more than help you unwind—it may keep the number on the scale in check too. A Brigham and Women's Hospital study found that women who had one to two alcoholic beverages per day were 30 percent less likely to be overweight or obese than nondrinkers. Researchers believe the vinos either make room for the liquid calories in their diets by skipping other carbs or that women burn more calories metabolizing alcohol then men do.
