If the difference between your body weight before and after exercise is 2 percent (for example, 2.6 pounds for a 130-pound woman), then your athletic performance has been compromised. Every pound lost is equal to 16-ounces of fluid deficit, and more than 2 percent means there could be potential health risks, including elevated heart rate and body temperature. Dripping in water is par for the course, but if you’re too drenched, be sure to hydrate all day, add a little salt to your diet to help you retain water better, and consider a recovery drink such as coconut water after your workout.
