The new purple food is as nutritious as it is pretty
We bet you’ve seen the beautiful, violet-hued ice cream that's taking over social media lately. What is it? It’s called ube, and it's more than just a pretty picture.
What exactly is ube? It’s a root veggie in the same family as sweet potatoes.
Go ahead, pick your jaw up off the floor, we’re just as surprised as you that this uber-trendy ice cream is actually made from a vegetable.
Just like those orange sweet potatoes that are nutrient packed, ube does awesome things for your body. The veg is full of antioxidants, including a specific type called anthocyanins, which have been linked to anti-inflammatory properties and may protect against cancer and heart disease.
So next time you see ube ice cream on the menu, give it a try. And of course, don’t forget to post a picture.
