3 Clean Vegan Protein Powders We Love

Protein powders make it easy to fuel up pre- or post-workout. They can also give a little boost to your breakfast smoothie. But sometimes choosing one from the rows and rows of containers packed with the good-for-you stuff can be a little daunting. (Don't let the mad-scientist terms fool you—these 8 scary-sounding ingredients are actually safe.) Even more: If you’re a vegan—or have certain dietary restrictions (gluten-free, for example)—not all brands of protein powder will work with your eating plan. The good news: You don't need to avoid them all together. These three new products are all-natural, not intimidating-sounding at all (how fun does an Aloha protein powder sound?), and they are all soy-, dairy-, and gluten-free. Oh yeah, and they taste great, too.

Aloha Plant-Based Superfood Protein

This new organic powder, which comes in vanilla and chocolate, gets its protein from peas and seeds. It uses real, natural ingredients—including real vanilla beans and fair-trade cocoa—for flavor. ($39 for an 18-ounce tin; aloha.com)

Vega One

Add this powder to your morning smoothie to get greens and protein in one. The newly-reformulated powder has no added sugar, and has 33 percent more protein and double the greens of the previous version. ($70 for a 30-ounce package; myvega.com)

Philosophie Superfood Blends

Made from sprouted brown rice protein, Philosophie’s powders—which come in varieties called Cacao Magic, Green Dream, and Berry Bliss—are organic and completely raw. ($55 for a 16-ounce bag; thephilosophie.com)
