Jessica Alba Shares the Smoothie Recipes She Makes Before and After a Workout

jessica-alba-1000.jpg

When offered the opportunity to go make smoothies with Jessica Alba (as part of her new 'What's Inside is Everything' campaign for ZICO coconut water), you say yes and ask questions later. And boy, did I have questions. Like, what kind of supplements does she add? (Plant-based vanilla protein powder, never whey—it gives her a stomachache.) Do her berry smoothies turn out looking like gross brown science experiments like mine always do? (Nope, they're beautiful.) And come on—does the woman who runs the billion-dollar Honest Company really have time to whip up her own smoothies on the reg? (Yep, she really does, along with some help from her daughter, Honor.) Another fun fact? She always drinks her smoothies over ice because "they taste so much better cold."

Here, she shares two of her go-to morning smoothies for pre- and post-workout.

Jessica Alba’s Pre-Workout Matcha Green Tea Smoothie

Jessica is all about adding matcha to her morning smoothie before heading to spin class for a caffeine boost (without the acidity of coffee).

Blend ingredients until smooth and serve over ice.

Jessica Alba's Post-Workout Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie

Her favorite post-workout "peanut butter cup" smoothie uses Zico's chocolate coconut water, which Jessica describes as "like a Yoohoo but healthier, because it has electrolytes." Sold. While it's her daughter Honor's favorite sans the protein powder, Jessica shares that she adds a bit of plant-based protein for herself post-workout to refuel, along with the electrolytes from the coconut water.

  • ZICO Chocolate Coconut Water
  • 1-2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 1 banana
  • Handful of granola (optional for added texture)
  • 1/4 cup vanilla protein powder

Blend ingredients until smooth and serve over ice.
