Look Picture-Perfect in a Snap!

Ready for your close-up?

by Jonty Davies

Ready for your close-up? Strike a pose like a pro with these tips from Los Angeles-based photographer Jonty Davies, who shot Heather Locklear for Shape's February cover.

-Look lively. Avoid a plastered-on grin by glancing down at the ground and then back just before the flash goes off. "Your expression is guaranteed to appear more natural," says Davies.

-Turn sideways. When standing, angle your body 45 degrees to the left or right. "This creates a more flattering and slimming profile than if you were to face the camera head-on," he adds.

-Open your eyes. Tired of looking sleepy in every snap? Davies's advice: Show off your eyes by opening them wide a few seconds before your photo is taken.

And God! Don't plant your feet and back up your head!!!
I'm a photographer and the people who back away to only create a flat face and triple chin. . .
Lean INTO the camera people. Angle your body and lean INTO THE CAMERA!!!!
