The Essential Oil Hack to Wake You Up In the Morning

You'd have to be living under a rock not to know about essential oils—they've been around for thousands of years and are trendier than ever right now. But chances are you're probably not incorporating them into your beauty routine in all the ways you could be. Beyond just smelling good, essential oils can be used to soothe, regenerate, and heal the skin if you use them the right way, as Hope Gillerman, author of Essential Oils Every Daytells our sister site, BHG. Here, she shares a beyond easy energy-boosting DIY serum with lavender and peppermint that you can incorporate into your daily morning routine. 

The Recipe
1/2 tsp lavender
1/4 tsp palmarosa
1/8 tsp peppermint

Mix all three together in a clean, recycled spice jar or a dropper bottle.

How to use:
After your makeup is done, apply one to two drops on the most prominent bone at the base of the nape of your neck. "This is the hub of the body's tension patterns," Gillerman says. These oils will wake you up, cool you off, and leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Plus, the oils are completely clear, so they won't stain your clothes, she adds. "It's best to do this once you're done with your makeup because you don't want to touch near your eyes with peppermint oil on your fingers," she says. (Um, ouch!)

Bonus: It's also a perfect pre-workout pick-me-up. Research shows that just smelling peppermint can boost your alertness and mood.
