Get Rid of Canker Sores

Fast fix: Stress can trigger an outbreak of these painful mouth ulcers—so it's not surprising that one reared its head now. Using an antimicrobial mouthwash, like Listerine Antiseptic ($5; at drugstores) will keep it from becoming infected and lessen the persistent discomfort. Applying an over-the-counter pain-relieving cream, such as Colgate Orabase ($6; drugstore.com), can also help prevent irritation. If you regularly suffer from canker sores, aim to up your vitamin B12 intake a few weeks before tying the knot. Research has linked canker sores with not getting enough of this vitamin. Women need at least 2.4 micrograms of it a day—roughly the amount you'll get in two large eggs plus 1 cup of nonfat yogurt, or in 2 ounces of salmon.
