The 270-foot-tall rushing Snoqualmie Falls is one of the most sacred spots on the planet, according to local Native American tribal lore. Perched at the very edge is Salish Lodge & Spa, which is just 30 miles northeast of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

For an incredible nature-nurture experience, check out the "Learn to Kayak" package for two (from $699, includes your overnight stay, a half-day of kayak instruction and one 50-minute spa treatment for each guest; 800-272-5474, salishlodge.com).

Heart-Healthy Fitness Test the waters with a half-day kayak trip led by Seattle Raft & Kayak. Suit up from head to toe in neoprene gear (all included with the fee) and learn to "wear" your kayak by contracting your abs, tilting your hips and slightly bending your knees as you ply Class II (out of V) white-water rapids.

Or get your adrenaline fix: Pile onto an inflatable raft with a group of other Northwest adventurers and ride the roaring Snoqualmie River ($225, per person, for four hours). Then, wander along the Salish's adjacent wilderness trails, which circumnavigate the falls. Start with the wide, well-maintained (though steep) half-mile trail from the main overlook to the mossy banks. Or set your sites on neighboring Mount Si (elevation 3,800 feet), a popular peak for backpackers-in-training, which offers a rugged yet thrilling four-mile ascent (and a 3,500-foot elevation change) past fragrant cedar trees with plenty of rocky perches for impromptu picnicking.

R & R Request a room with a view and let the whoosh of the falls lull you to sleep with a customized pillow. (Select from a menu of seven types including lavender, buckwheat and magnetic-therapy -- gratis!) Cuddle up in front of your own wood-burning fireplace or luxuriate in the room's enormous jet-stream hot tub.

Table for Two Reserve a window seat in the Dining Room and feast on fresh Dungeness crab (entrees $28-$42). Save room for the "World of Chocolate" ($18), a sweet lesson in portion control: Your server offers flavors from each major continent from bitter and savory Tanzanian cacao to creamy European milk chocolate.

Spa-ing it Cap off an active weekend with 50 minutes of Zen-lightenment for two in The Spa at Salish Lodge; book the "Duet Massage" in a private suite before a crackling fire.
